Today is Ada Lovelace Day – you can learn more about the day and person at findingada.com. The tl;dr version though is that its a day to celebrate the achievements of women in science and technology.
The usual format in the blog posts celebrating the day is to pick a woman who inspired you and write about them. There are loads of these great posts being published today.
I just wanted to do something slightly different. My career has been pretty much defined by working with a whole bunch of amazing women. At Jisc, MRC and now at the ONS I have been surrounded by incredible and inspiring women everyday – who often have put my knowledge of this web thing of ours to shame. They certainly have been able to make more sense of it in the context of a wider working world than I ever seem to manage!
Certainly some of these women take a good bit of credit (blame?) for the career I built and I’d just like to say thanks 🙂
My Twitter stream is also full of brilliant geeky women whose advice I often seek out and who are endlessly providing me insights I’d otherwise lack. So to you all as well. Thanks!
