[2024] Week 31

I seem to have fallen into a habit of capturing my weeks on a Thursday – probably need to reboot that once I get back into work but given this week has been the lowest of low key it doesn’t really matter.

Last Friday I eased in to (s)unemployment by going to see Deadpool x Wolverine – which is funny, foul mouthed, fan-serving to the extreme with the emotional depth of a puddle. I really enjoyed it but it is a mess – throwing cameos and callbacks at the screen at a rapid rate and relying on the charisma of Reynolds and Jackman to hold it together (which it mainly does).

Then I got much more inebriated with Zak and Jake than I planned – Saturday was a bit of a struggle! Was a fun afternoon though.

Monday I had my first couple of ‘what next?’ conversations with potential employers. I walked away from one due to logistical challenges but have a final, follow-up interview for the other next week. Don’t want to get too excited because you never know how these things might go but it is a role I’d very much like to take on. 🤞.

Tuesday I spent all morning waiting for my (ex) work laptop to be picked up by the courier – inevitably they showed up in the last 15 minutes of the four hour window I was provided.

I did rock this ‘pretty in pink’ fit though and went to the pub to see my favourite six year old art critic Lola (and her folks) just so I could show it off. Vanity, thy name is Jukesie.

Had lovely catch-ups with Darwin, Lana and Ben. Also checked out the venue for the next Product for the People unconference in November – which looked spot on (very close to Temple Meads station for all Westcountry attendees).

Set out my reading list for the summer – finished The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older (a slim ‘novella’ really so a bit of a cheat but it is a lovely Holmesian detective story set on Jupiter with a really sweetly drawn romance at the heart of it) and am now fighting my way through Jeff Gothelf‘s ‘Who Does What By How Much?’ to prove I am not really as anti-OKR as sometimes I portray (I just think they need a very, very specific environment if they are to be successful).

Did a bit of an audit of my Summer/Autumn activities – turns out there is more lined up than I realised (though some of it is dependent on not getting a new job too quickly).

At the moment I have trips to the Cheltenham Paint Festival, Southend on Sea Paint Jam and the Massive Attack/Killer Mike gig on the Downs lined up for the next couple of weeks.

Then a trip to Amsterdam to visit the updated Straat Museum as well as the Moco and the Stedelijk museums.

September I am in Hamburg for the Product at Heart conference and also the 35 Years of DAIM (graffiti legend) exhibition. Also Papercamp is happening in London.

Then I am off to New York in October for the New York Comic-Con, the Basketball 3×3 finals in Brooklyn as well as visiting the Bushwick Collective and Welling Court Murals.

Oh and today I am off to London for Zung and Iain’s leaving drinks (I was back at TPX so short a spell I didn’t arrange anything so just leaching off this one!). Meh – started to feel a bit off so no London trip..

Phew – feels like a lot for someone as inactive as I am!

Okay – that was a lot of words saying nothing really but so goes life in sunemployment.

Take care.
